The Golden Circle is the most popular road trip, covering 3 of Iceland’s most iconic natural destinations - Thingvellir National Park, Gullfoss Waterfall, and Geysir Geothermal Area. There are a number of smaller attractions to hit on this route if time allows.

F-Roads are roads within Iceland’s Highlands, found primarily in the center of the country. They often have more difficult conditions and are only open during the summer months, so only 4x4 vehicles are permitted here. Driving offroad in any vehicle is illegal and punishable by hefty fines.

Speed limits in Iceland are notoriously low and speeding fines are particularly high. In urban areas, limits are typically 50 km/h, gravel roads observe 80 km/h limits, and paved roads 90 km/h. If you incur fees on your rental car, you will likely be charged a handling fee by your rental car company on top of the fine fees.

If we can read the characters on the driver’s license, you will not need an international driver’s license but you need to be 18 years old and have held a driver’s license for a year.

If you haven’t chosen the premium insurance package or SCDW (Super collision damage waiver), we will block a deposit for 350.000 ISK which will be released when the car has been returned.
